If, like me, you’re a bit of a beauty junkie and can’t tear yourself away from beauty blogs, Instagram and YouTube (drat- that laundry should have been hung out to dry ages ago!) then you will have heard all about the latest products from cosmetic brand CoverFX. It is near impossible to avoid online reviews, un-boxings and tutorials linked to some of the goodies from this brand. The beauty blogging world had already been set alight by the launch of their ‘Custom Cover Drops’ last year and now things have really warmed up with their venture into the highlighting and bronzing niche and ‘Custom Enhancing Drops’. Hello shimmer! I have been lucky enough to have tried and tested two products from these ranges and have pulled my thoughts together in the ramblings below.
For those of you who have managed to escape the grasps of the bonkers beauty world (I salute you!) and have no idea who CoverFX are or what all the hype is about then here is a quick little overview.
The Canadian brand was established in the year of the millennium, 2000, with the aim of creating products that were environmentally friendly and free of irritants. The brand philosophy is all about creating a variety of products that suit all skin-types right down to even the most sensitive of skins – (Music to my gentle skin’s ears) and all skin tones. They had an understand that a “one product fits” all mantra was never going to work. They also understood the importance of skin-care when it came to make-up application. Clearly, they were beauty forward-thinkers. Their experience is routed in health care and the back-stories of “The Experts” is definitely worth a read.
As time went on their brand grew and by 2007 their products were being sold in stores across Canada, the UK and the USA. Nowadays, CoverFX has a wide range of products from skin care serums to foundations and contour kits. Their innovation and focus on the individual, not the masses have got them to where they are today and I must say; I’m impressed! Any brand that puts me in the driver seat when it comes to my skin, and reminds us that not everyone has “Supermodel Skin” is worth considering in my book. I have quickly become a CoverFX fan-girl.
I love the CoverFX website because it is more than a brochure of products. On here you will find lots of information about the company, the people who run it and, their philosophy. There is even a “Beauty School” section where you can gain step-by-step advice relating to your personal skin problems. If you want to find out more you can read their story on their official site by clicking here, Alternatively, as I mentioned before, you can head over to YouTube, Instagram or any other blogging hang-outs; simply type in ‘CoverFX’ into a Google and watch the results flood in.
CoverFX Custom Cover Drops
I love, love, love this product. I would go as far (at this point) to say it is my holy grail, my skin soul-mate, the one. Ok, so a tad on the dramatic side. BUT, having just grumbled to my good friend, the day before, that I was never going to find that, “flawless foundation,” so many online beauty-gurus gush about my discovery couldn’t have come at a better time.
Having heard all the hype I picked mine up in SpaceNK for a pricey £36 However, whilst on the more expensive side, it is worth noting that a few drops go a long way so this product will last you a very long time. Thus, I can justify parting with my cash because it will save me pennies in the long run – does this product just keep getting better and better or what?
Now, the product is marketed as being a source of genuine customisation for your skin-tone, base preference and so forth. This is fantastic, in theory. But, what this really means is you need to be prepared to do a little experimentation to see what works. On my first try I mixed it with the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone.
Hello skin-heaven! I could not of been happier. My skin was glowing, it had good coverage without being cakey and, it had staying power – tada! The next day I tried mixing the drops with a classic, Nivea moisturiser. It went on really well and everything was looking. Had I finally found a way to wear a tinted moisturiser that wouldn’t melt off my face…? Er, no! A few hours later and it was hello Patchy McPatchface! Next, I tried mixing the drops with a foundation (also a recommendation of the brand) and opted for the YSL Touche Eclat one day and the NARS Sheer Glow the next (both foundation faves). Coverage and staying power was good and I was generally happy but, I didn’t have that “Wow” feeling I did the first time around. So, I went back to the BECCA combination I tried in the first place and voila! Success.
This is definitely the combination that works for me, and works for my skin. And, that it the beauty of the brand. There are no clear cut rules or “must-dos”. In an industry that is flooded with people constantly commenting on what is “right” or “wrong”. Their thinking is and approach to make-up is refreshing.
I am certainly going to keep using this product and I hope others do too. Just make sure you set some time aside to find out how best it will work for you. Don’t thrown in the dropper if it doesn’t work the first time around. This is trial and error process but, hopefully when it clicks it sticks.
